Orthodontic treatment will help to correct misaligned teeth or bite issues. This treatment creates a more attractive smile and can alleviate certain issues resulting from a misaligned bite. Orthodontics can be used as a stand-alone procedure or as part of a comprehensive plan placing teeth in an optimal position prior to additional restorative procedures.

Orthodontic treatment involves strategically attaching metal or ceramic brackets to the misaligned teeth, connecting them with a special wire that is incrementally adjusted to place the teeth and jaw in correct alignment. Some patients may be candidates for Invisalign® therapy which employs the use of clear aligners to move teeth into the optimal position.

Instead of using traditional, metal bands and brackets, the Invisalign® system employs clear plastic “aligners”. These aligners are worn for about two weeks at a time until the desired tooth movement has occurred, at which time the patient utilizes the next fitted aligner. This is continued until the teeth are in the correct position.

The main advantage of the clear aligners is straight teeth without the need for metal bands or brackets. In fact, it’s very hard to tell if someone is wearing these clear “braces” at all!
